I finally got those fish recipes in the game, but honestly, that’s not what’s holding Reel Dream back. The direction of the game, and the lack of a solid plot outline is. I’ve been reading these two books:
Each link to their amazon page.
Anywho, I need to sit down with Reel Dream and write it out. I need to create some Game Development Documents. I need to refocus and figure out the direction Reel Dream should be going. I have a battle system, I have a cooking system, but how do I pull this all together? I have ideas for the plot, but things don’t feel connected right now.
So I’m going to be getting out of the RPG Maker editor and onto paper (real and digital) to actually plan this game. It needs it. I’ll be using the concepts learned in Level Up and The Art of Game Design to solidify what Reel Dream should be so I can move forward.
This means that programing wise, Reel Dream isn’t going anywhere, but I can’t really program the game if I don’t know what the game is.
I’m not sure how I’ll keep you updated on the development of Reel Dream when it comes to the documents. Perhaps I’ll share them, or at least screenshot parts of them. I want to make sure ya’ll know I’m working on Reel Dream, even if it isn’t in editor.
Speaking of the ‘game’ I decided I’d share some current screenshots. As you’ll see the UI is still a mess, but I’m putting together the pieces. The concept is there, I just got to tune it.
Anywho, thanks for keeping up with me, and God bless!

Level Up is such an AMAZING book! I’ve had it for years and still give a read every once in awhile, there’s some real gems in there. Definitely a good call to take a step back and get things in order, take as much time as you need. Screenshots are looking pretty dope too!
Keep up the great work, I’m rooting for ya!
Thanks so much Lorenze <3
